For our last weekend in England we decided to go on an ITT trip to Cardiff and Bath. I had told myself that I wouldn't go on another ITT trip again while I was here but we didn't have much time to plan anything and we wanted to see Bath so we just went for it. It was an enjoyable weekend and it was a good way to see a little more of England. There was a group of 5 of us that went plus Tom. We left at 5:45 in the morning and took a 4 hour bus ride to Wales, which is another country by the way. I miss counted my country count last week. I have actually been to 12 different countries now that I realized that Wales was a country. In Wales we visited the town Cardiff. We had about 4 hours to roam the streets and take in the Welch way of life. There was a different vibe about Cardiff. There were all sorts of people around but everyone was quiet. The only thing you hear was the street musicians. It was a Saturday morning but I couldn't get over how quiet it was.
After Cardiff we got back on the bus and traveled a short while and went to a fairly new castle just right outside of Cardiff. It was just over one thousand years old. I'd say that's pretty old...but that's just me. We explored the castle for about an hour and then walked around the quiet little town.
We then crossed the boarder again and went to Bristol where our hotel was. We were told we were going to stay in Bath but once we got on the bus we were told we would be staying in Bristol....this is ITT for you. Ha! Which is fine but there seemed to be nothing going on there. After we got settled into our hotel we were hungry for pizza. We looked up the closest Pizza Hut and started walking. As we were walking we couldn't believe this town. It was FULL of graffiti. I'm talking everywhere you looked there was more writing on the wall. It was the strangest thing. The town seemed very...hipster. As we are walking and not finding Pizza Hut, Tom finally realized we were walking to a Pizza Hut Delivery. We quickly decided that we were probably on the wrong side of town and we should go back and try to find the "City Center". We did find the city center and we decided that since there wasn't much to do we were going to revert back to our American ways and go to TGI Friday's for dinner and then go watch a movie. It was a wonderful evening. We haven't had many weekends....well we haven't had any weekend where we just get to go out to dinner and enjoy a movie. We went and saw Spider Man 2. The cool this is that it isn't out in the States until May 2nd. It was a great movie. I would advise you to go see it if you can.
The next day we headed to Bath. I had heard about Bath before I came to England. Everyone told me it was a must see, and I would have to agree with them. It was the cutest town that we built around a Roman theme. When the Romans took over they build what I would call a recreational center where you could come to bath in the baths with healing water. I was obsessed with how cool this was. I even talked Ellen into sticking her blister in the water because I thought it might actually heal it...as of now...it still isn't healed. The whole museum was very cool. It was one of the more interactive museums I have been to. We were handed an audio tour guide and you could choose which audio you wanted to listen to. One was informative and the other was more of a perspective point of view. They even had audio tours for children. I listened to a couple and they were cool because it was a a script of the character that was being shown in that particular exhibit. I had a great time wondering from Bath to Bath and picturing the Romans hanging out and getting pampered.
After the Bath experience we had a couple hours to burn so we went and had lunch at Jamie's Italian and followed that by some tea. I am addicted. It was such an enjoyable weekend...even though it was raining.
